Phyllis A. Lingford, age 98, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, while under the care of Compassus Hospice at Cedar Creek Manor in Kronenwetter. Born on May 3, 1927, in Biron to William and Bessie (Staples) Sherman, she grew up in Wisconsin Rapids and graduated from Lincoln High School. In 1946, she married Donald Lingford, with whom she shared a loving marriage until his passing in 2010.
Phyllis and Donald began their life together in Milwaukee before returning to Wisconsin Rapids in 1950. She loved music, especially playing the piano and dancing to big band tunes. After Don’s retirement, the couple enjoyed road trips across the country, embracing new experiences together. Later, after moving to the Wausau area, they became avid walkers in local parks such as Rib Mountain and Marathon Park. Dining out was another joy, with fond memories of strolling to The Mint Café after mall walks and celebrating special occasions at 2510 Restaurant.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Evans of Marshfield and Kathleen Hagen of Kronenwetter; four grandchildren; and ten great‑grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her legacy of love and resilience. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, her son John, two brothers, one sister, and her son‑in‑law Gary Evans.
Phyllis will be remembered for her grace, her devotion to family, and the joy she found in life’s simple pleasures. Her family is deeply grateful for the care and kindness shown to her by the staff at Cedar Creek Manor and Compassus Hospice.
