Joyce W. Jurgens, 86, of Beatrice, Nebraska, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 15, 2026, at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln. Her long life was marked by quiet strength, steady dedication, and a gentle spirit that touched those who knew her. Born on May 29, 1939, in Lankin, North Dakota, Joyce spent her early years in Minnesota before her family moved to Hastings and later Friend, Nebraska. In 1957, they settled in Beatrice, the community she would call home for the rest of her life.
Joyce graduated from high school in Beatrice and began her working years at Store Kraft, where she formed lasting friendships and earned the respect of her coworkers. She later joined the financial department at the Beatrice State Developmental Center, where she served faithfully for many years. Her work was marked by reliability, kindness, and a deep sense of responsibility—qualities that defined her both professionally and personally.
A woman of quiet faith, Joyce was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beatrice. Her devotion was steady and sincere, reflected not only in her attendance but in the way she lived her life—with humility, compassion, and gratitude. She also had a special love for her pet cats, who brought her comfort and companionship throughout the years.
Joyce is survived by many friends who will remember her warmth, her gentle humor, and her thoughtful nature. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Alyce (Trousil) Kosobud, and by her brother, Dr. William (Misako) Kosobud. Though her family circle was small, the love she shared was genuine and enduring.
Honoring Joyce’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no visitation will be held. Graveside inurnment services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice, with Father Leo Kosch officiating. A memorial has been established to honor her memory. Joyce’s life reminds us that kindness, faithfulness, and quiet generosity leave a lasting imprint on the world.
