Nancy J. Bedessem, 89, of Wausau, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Aspirus Palliative Care, surrounded by the love of her family. Her passing marks the end of a long and beautiful life defined by devotion, music, and the joy she brought to everyone around her. Nancy leaves behind a legacy woven from kindness, faith, and the deep love she shared with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great‑grandchildren.
Born in 1936 in Bangor, Wisconsin, Nancy grew up in a close‑knit community where her love of music first took root. She attended Lutheran Middle School and graduated from Bangor High School in 1955. One of her fondest memories was winning a singing duet competition with her best friend, Nancy Rea, which led them to compete at the state level—a moment that reflected her lifelong passion for music. Shortly after graduating, she moved to Wausau, where she began building the life she would share with her beloved husband, Jim Bedessem. This past St. Patrick’s Day, they celebrated an extraordinary milestone: their 70th wedding anniversary, a testament to their enduring love and partnership.
Nancy was a devoted mother to her four children—Scott (deceased), Robyn (Tom), Julie (Chris) Zelich, and Brad (Kathy) Bedessem. Her family was the center of her world, and she poured her heart into creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and music. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren—Meghan, Paige, Ethan, and Ava—and her great‑grandchildren, Ellie and Gianna. Whether celebrating holidays, sharing meals, or simply enjoying each other’s company, Nancy found her greatest joy in the presence of those she loved.
Music was a defining thread throughout Nancy’s life. A gifted and passionate musician, she played the piano, accordion, clarinet, and guitar, and she loved to sing. Her home was often filled with melodies that reflected her joyful spirit and her deep appreciation for the arts.
Beyond music, Nancy embraced several interests that enriched her days. She was a faithful and active member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Wausau, where she found spiritual fulfillment and community. She took great pride in her meticulous housekeeping, and she was a dedicated hockey mom who enthusiastically cheered for the Minnesota Wild and the Wisconsin Badgers.
For more than 40 years, Nancy and Jim treasured summers camping on Lake Nokomis with close friends. Those summers were filled with laughter, shared meals, and memories that became some of the most cherished moments of her life. Nancy will be remembered for her loving heart, her musical gifts, and the warmth she brought to everyone she met.
