Franklin “Frank” J. Walters, 86, of Wausau, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, leaving behind a legacy defined by hard work, generosity, and deep devotion to his family. Known for his easy smile and the way he seemed to know someone everywhere he went, Frank touched countless lives through both his craftsmanship and his kindness. His passing marks the loss of a man whose presence brought warmth, reliability, and connection to every room he entered.
Born on February 4, 1940, in Edgar, Wisconsin, Frank was the son of Frank and Mildred (Borchardt) Walters. He married Carol Hamann on May 26, 1962, in Edgar, and together they built a loving home until her passing in 1993. On June 16, 2000, he married Judy Grabau (Madison) in Wausau, beginning a new chapter filled with companionship, shared adventures, and the joy of blended family. Throughout his life, Frank remained deeply rooted in the values of his upbringing—hard work, humility, and loyalty.
Frank dedicated more than 75 years to his craft as a carpenter, mastering every aspect of home construction. From roofing and plumbing to electrical work and general handyman projects, he approached every task with skill, pride, and an unwavering work ethic.
His craftsmanship lives on in countless homes and buildings throughout the region. Beyond his talent, Frank was known for his ability to connect with people—he truly never met a stranger. Whether offering a helping hand or sharing a story, he made others feel seen and valued.
Outside of work, Frank embraced the simple joys that made life meaningful. He loved being outdoors, tending to his yard, and caring for his flowers. He traveled to 35 states and into Canada, and he enjoyed many memorable casino trips. A devoted fan of the Packers, Brewers, and NASCAR, he rarely missed a game or race.
Frank especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren, cheering them on at sporting events and creating traditions they will carry forward—playing Sheepshead, making Christmas candy, decorating cutout cookies, and mixing his signature grasshopper drinks. And no Friday was complete without a fish fry and a brandy old fashioned.
Frank is survived by his wife, Judy Walters; his children, Rick (Christine) Walters, Randall (Julia) Walters, and Steven (Debi) Walters; his grandchildren, Kelsey (Dylan) Swords, Allyson (Joey) Hnath, Mason (Shannon) Walters, Emilee (Sean) Anderson, and Braden Walters; and his great‑grandchildren, Noah Hnath, Maverik and Rhett Walters, and Logan Anderson.
He is also survived by his brothers, Gary (Betty) Walters, Greg Walters, and LaRon (Julie) Walters. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Carol; his brother and sister‑in‑law, Doug (Mary) Walters; and his granddaughter, Liliana Walters. Frank will be remembered for his generous heart, his craftsmanship, and the joy he found in family, friendship, and the everyday moments that made life rich.
