Duane G. Schuster, 67, of Beatrice, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, April 6, 2026, at his home. Born on December 9, 1958, to Vernon and Ella (Paben) Schuster, Duane grew up with strong family values, a deep faith, and a love for the land that shaped the course of his life. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church and graduated from Filley High School in 1977, carrying with him the lessons of hard work, humility, and service that would define his character for decades to come.
Throughout his life, Duane embraced a variety of roles and responsibilities with dedication and pride. He worked the harvest run, helped build concrete elevators, and contributed his skills to Bauman Agri Service, Store Kraft, and Prairie View Industries.
His work ethic was unwavering, and he took great satisfaction in doing every job well. Duane was also deeply connected to his faith community, serving as a member of Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell and previously as a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Beatrice. He especially enjoyed taking church youth to camp and participating in mission trips, where his kindness and steady presence made a lasting impact.
Duane’s personal life was filled with meaningful relationships and cherished memories. He married Loretta Kermmoade, and together they were blessed with a daughter, Jamie. Duane also lovingly helped raise her son, forming bonds that endured even after life took them in different directions. He later married Sharon Oltman Mencl, continuing to build a life rooted in family, faith, and shared purpose. Duane found joy in simple pleasures—mowing, fishing, hunting, and farming alongside loved ones. These moments, spent outdoors and surrounded by family, were among his happiest.
He is survived by his daughter, Jamie (Michael) Rye; siblings Shirley (Alden) Kruschke, Donald (Gayle) Schuster, Ruth (Ron) Parde, and Wayne (Rita) Schuster; as well as many nieces and nephews who will forever remember his gentle spirit and generous heart. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Ella Schuster; his sister, Beverly (Armin) Daubendiek; nephew, David Daubendiek; and nieces, November Schuster and Monica Kruschke. His family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with those who went before him.
A memorial service honoring Duane’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Beatrice with Pastor James Anderson officiating. Inurnment will take place earlier that morning at 9:30 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Cemetery of rural Pickrell. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. at the church.
Cremation has taken place, and while there will be no viewing, a book for signatures will be available on Thursday from noon until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who knew Duane to honor his memory through acts of kindness, service, or support to causes meaningful to him.
