Debra Ann Smith Padgett, 68, of Alma, Georgia, passed away suddenly at her home on April 4, 2026. Born on November 20, 1957, in Bacon County to Vernon Smith Sr. and Freida Carter Smith, Debra grew up surrounded by a large, close‑knit family whose love shaped her life. She faced the loss of her parents, her sons John Reilly and Lawrence Starkey, and her sister Pam Smith with strength and grace, carrying forward the values they instilled in her. Her life was marked by resilience, devotion, and a deep love for those closest to her.

Debra’s greatest joy came from being a mother. She is survived by her daughters Euniss Grant and Amanda Reilly, both of Alma, who were the center of her world. She also shared a lifelong bond with her siblings—Vernon Smith Jr. of Alma, Bruce (Annette) Smith and Billy (Sandra) Smith of Dublin, and Julianne (Scott) Jewell of Alma. Her home was a place of welcome, warmth, and comfort, where family gathered often and where Debra’s presence was a steady source of love and support.

Family was everything to Debra, and her heart was fullest when surrounded by her grandchildren and great‑grandchildren. With 17 grandchildren and 4 great‑grandchildren, she embraced the beautiful, lively energy of a large family. She celebrated their milestones, encouraged their dreams, and offered the unconditional love that defined her role as a mother and grandmother. Her family will remember her as a woman who loved fiercely, gave generously, and found joy in every moment spent with those she cherished.

Debra also shared her life with her special friend, Thomas Sanchez, whose companionship brought her comfort and happiness.
